Political Calendars

The Sydney Morning Herald picked up a story today on personalised calendars for parliamentarians. Australian business work hard to lubricate lobbyists in Parliment House with endless gifts, from beer holders, t-shirts and other tasteless presents. However, pharmaceutical firm Pfizer has struck gold by sending personalised image calendars to all new occupants of the Parliament House's ministerial wing.

Pfizer has incorporated Kevin Rudd's 'Kevin 07' campaign brand into different images and has also created similar personalised calendars for every minister and parliamentary secretary.

Pfizer, like most of the big pharmaceutical companies, has an interest in maintaining cordial links with all senior ministers, as any public drug listing worth more than $10 million goes automatically to cabinet for approval.

I'm rather underwhelmed by the use of popular DirectSmile stock images, which many of us have seen used a hundred times over. Personalisation at this level really doesn't add any relevance to the target audience. However it's obviously quite effective, and newsworthy to make national news.
