New XMPie Brand

[Note: this entry was posted on April 1, in keeping with the "theme of the day".]

While I realise that XMPie is now a wholly owned business unit of Xerox Corporation, I was still surprised to see that the new Xerox brand identity has been extended to include XMPie, which until now has retained its own branding. Although the new brand has not yet been incorporated on XMPie's Web site and collateral, it is understood that XMPie will start introducing it over the next few months.

An insider informs me that the new brand identity is just one step of a larger project to to fully integrate XMPie within Xerox Corporation. The name 'XMPie' is actually a legacy acronym from the original company tagline "X-Media Personalisation in eBusiness". However, when the 'eBusiness' buzzword lost popularity during the dot-com crash, the tagline was dropped. But, Xerox now plan to re-introduce the acronym, changing the tagline to "Xerox Makes Personalisation Incredibly Easy". It doesn't quite have the same ring to it, but maybe it will catch on...

It's also rumoured that XMPie will be adapting their product names to bring them inline with Xerox's product naming convention. Similar to Xerox's DocuTech, DocuColor and DocuPrint product names, we can expect to see uDirect being renamed to 'DocuDirect', uImage to 'DocuImage' and so on.

Thats a shame - Xerox have resisted doing this for the past couple of years. I fear this might be to there detriment. Keep up the good blogging work :)

Wow, could they have been any less original in their selection? XMPie could resist the Xerox juggernaut for only so long.

You think there is a special meaning for the fact this post was "Posted on Tuesday, 1 April 2008"? ;)

April Fool's joke Eliot?

Indeed, it was. Apparently my Adobe Illustrator skills were a little too convincing for some!

LOL - I just heard about this indirectly through a customer that was surprised we weren't using our "new" logo. I think you've done a better job of "April Fools" than Orson Wells did with "War of the Worlds" ....
